Howey Consulting

Building operational clarity for growing mission-driven organizations.

Core Philosophy

Many nonprofits are held together by talented, deeply committed people compensating for unclear systems, fragmented communication, and reactive decision-making. That approach can sustain an organization for a period of time, but it becomes fragile as organizations grow or are stressed. I believe strong organizations are not built on heroic staff or constant crisis response, but on intentional systems, clear decision-making, operational trust, and cultures that reinforce the mission.

My work focuses on helping organizations create clarity across strategy, operations, technology, organizational structure, and culture so teams can spend less time navigating internal friction and more time advancing meaningful work.

Who I Work With

I work primarily with small and mid-sized nonprofits that are growing, evolving, or experiencing operational strain. These organizations are often mission-driven, deeply committed to their work, and beginning to outgrow informal systems, centralized decision-making, or siloed communication structures. I am particularly effective in internal connector, operational leadership, and consulting roles focused on creating alignment, reducing friction, and building sustainable organizational infrastructure.

The 5-Part Organizational Alignment Framework

My work focuses on helping organizations create alignment across five interconnected areas:

  • Why: Mission and Strategy
    • Ensuring priorities, decision-making, and resources align with organizational goals.
  • Who: People and Organizational Design
    • Clarifying responsibilities, communication pathways, and decision-making structures.
  • How: Processes and Systems
    • Improving workflows, reducing friction, and creating scalable operational practices.
  • What: Tools and Technology
    • Building systems that support the work instead of creating additional burden.
  • Feel: Culture
    • Strengthening the behaviors, leadership practices, and norms that shape the organization day-to-day.

What I Bring

I bring 15 years of experience spanning operations leadership, evaluation and impact systems, technology infrastructure, process design, and cross-functional coordination. My approach combines systems thinking with practical implementation, helping organizations create operational clarity that is sustainable, measurable, and grounded in the realities of mission-driven work.

Engagement Models

Internal Connector / Integrator Roles – Supporting organizations from within to improve cross-functional communication, operational alignment, and organizational clarity.

Fractional Operations Leadership – Providing executive-level operational support for organizations that need structure, systems, and strategic coordination.

Consulting Engagements – Project-based support focused on operational assessments, systems redesign, process improvement, and organizational alignment.

Healthy organizations are not built by sidestepping complexity. They are built by creating clarity within complexity. My work helps organizations develop the systems, structures, and operational trust necessary to grow sustainably while staying grounded in their mission.
